Intro to the course:

This 15 week course will give you skills and knowledge to start your hairdressing journey. You'll be taught in our purpose-built hairdressing salons  by industry-experienced staff. You'll assist with services delivered to clients.  This course will prepare you for progression to study SVQ level 2 Hairdressing or Barbering within the same academic year.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career in hairdressing. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry. Perfect course for those stepping into hairdressing for the first time.

What will I study?

You'll develop foundation practical skills, and gain valuable salon experience and customer care skills . The course involves shampooing and conditioning  hair and scalp, blow drying hair, assisting with colour, plaiting and twisting hair, assisting with barbering skills.

It will introduce you to a range of basic hairdressing techniques and skills needed for a career in the industry and provide valuable customer care skills.

Where can this course lead?

This course prepares you to enter employment as a junior or apprentice within a hairdressing salon.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • age 16 at the beginning of the programme 
  • good communication skills and ability to work effectively with others
  • motivated and have creative and artistic skills 
  • no formal qualifications required
  • acceptance may depend on application

Interview on campus with lecturing team.
