Intro to the course:

This fast track course will be delivered over 24 weeks. You will learn creative barbering skills in a realistic environment through workshops and practical sessions. Creatively cut hair using barbering techniques, provide shaving services, design and create facial hair shapes using advanced techniques, consult, assess and plan for barbering services, creatively colour and lighten the hair using advanced techniques. Work placement in undertaken during the course.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone who is in employment and who wants to obtain a formal qualification, or take a short, continuing professional development course.

What will I study?

You'll learn how to creatively cut Hair using a combination of barbering techniques:

  • design and create a range of facial hair shapes
  • provide shaving services
  • provide client consultation services 

There are optional units in: 

  • designing and creating patterns in hair
  • hair colour correction services
  • developing, enhancing and evaluating creative barbering skills

Practical assessments and a portfolio evidence. SQA online (SOLAR) assessments, work experience.

This course is for anyone wanting to progress their career in barbering. You'll refine your skills and knowledge so you can go into employment in the barbering trade. You'll be taught by industry-experienced staff, and do work placements to gain direct experience of the trade.

This course, prepares you for work as a barber in a salon.

One or more of the following: 

  • SVQ level 2 qualification 
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the general public 
  • highly motivated and have creative and artistic skills 
  • skills test at interview 
  • acceptance may depend on interview

Interview by lecturing team, qualification, reference, skills test.
