Intro to the course:

This 24-week course is for beginners with no experience of barbering or hairdressing. The course covers all basic cutting, barbering and styling techniques suitable and in line within current barbering industry standards. The course includes facial haircutting and client-communication skills.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career as a barber. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

Beginners course covering all basic cutting, barbering and styling techniques to industry standard. The course includes:

  • cut hair using basic barbering techniques
  • cut facial hair
  • cut and clipper hair
  • creating basic outlines and detailing in hair
  • dry style and finish hair
  • shampoo condition and treat the hair and scalp

 You'll learn through workshops, groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers. Work placement will be undertaken during the course.

  • SVQ Level 3 in Barbering 
  • apprenticeship or mentoring scheme

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments under observation and a portfolio evidence. SQA online (SOLAR) assessments.

This course is for anyone wanting to start a career in barbering. You'll gain the skills and knowledge to progress on to a higher-level course or into employment in the barbering trade. You'll be taught by industry-experienced staff, and do work placements to gain direct experience of the trade.
