Paul Hutchinson has been on the South Lanarkshire College Board since September 2016, and was appointed Chairing Member in September 2020. Following a second term of office, Paul’s tenure has come to an end and he has been succeeded as Chair by Douglas Morrison.

With over 25 years’ experience in telecommunications and ICT, Paul has led teams in designing and delivering ICT to support military operations and three sporting events in the UK. Most recently as the Head of Telecommunications for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Paul is also a commissioned officer with the Royal Corps of Signals. Paul’s current role as Telecom and Venue Technology Lead with Alkira Consulting has allowed for a very exciting relocation opportunity that will see Paul and his wife move to LA. All at South Lanarkshire College would like to thank Paul for his services to the College and would like to wish him all the very best for the future.

Douglas Morrison has been the Vice Chair and Chair of the Remuneration Committee at South Lanarkshire College since September 2021. As the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST), formerly Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, he has a career engrained in tertiary education, focusing on digital learning, innovation, environmental issues, and equity and inclusion.

Douglas’s professional memberships include the Young Academy for Scotland and a Fellowship at the Institute for Innovation and Knowledge Exchange. He is also a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Education Committee and holds an assessor role for His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education.

His engagement in the skills landscape extends to environmental initiatives, including co-chairing the Decarbonisation of Heat Group and acting as a Steering Board member of Scotland’s Climate Emergency Skills Action Plan. Additionally, he co-chairs the Scottish Construction Leadership Forum’s Data Group.

Douglas has a master’s degree in technology-enhanced learning and executive education from Oxford University, London School of Economics, and HEC Paris. He is currently undertaking an Executive MBA with Quantic School of Business and Technology.

Douglas accepts the position of Chair at a pivotal time for the College and said: "It is a great privilege to be appointed the new chair of South Lanarkshire College. I recognise the invaluable role that colleges play in our society and believe they are central to our pursuit of a more prosperous future.

South Lanarkshire College has a long history of supporting students, businesses and communities in the Lanarkshire region and beyond. With the support of fellow board members, our talented and dedicated staff, and our network of employers, I look forward to working in partnership to build on that proud history.

Against a challenging economic backdrop, I also look forward to collaborating with colleagues across the sector to ensure that colleges are at the heart of our ongoing societal and sectoral transitions. My special thanks go to my predecessor Paul Hutchinson for his leadership and support throughout his tenure."
