Carol Scott - HNC Healthcare Practice

After working with the District Nursing team in Larkhall, Carol Scott knew it was time to realise her dream to become a nurse by studying on South Lanarkshire College’s HNC Healthcare Practice course.

“I’d been out of education for 22 years when I applied for the course”, said the 40 year old from Blantyre.  Carol continued:
“I chose the HNC Healthcare Practice course, as I’d been inspired by the District Nursing team I was working with.  I looked online and felt this course was a great way to get me prepared for university and gain the one year qualification I needed to apply for year two Nursing degree at the University of the West of Scotland.

While studying on the course, I’ve also been working with the Larkhall Integrated Community Support team as a Senior Clinical Support Worker.  When the pandemic hit, I volunteered to be redeployed to the acute care sector as I really wanted to play my part and help on the frontline. During this period I contracted Covid-19 and became extremely unwell. Thankfully I ‘ve had a full recovery and I am working and studying again.  I really feel that the pandemic has only increased my drive and passion for my job and the course I am studying on.  I have so much respect for all frontline workers”.

Carol’s dedication and commitment earned her a NHS People’s Choice Award nomination at the Scottish Health Awards 2020 ceremony which was held in December.

A huge thank you to carol for putting her own health on the line to ensure we’re all safe.
