South Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire College are working together to provide opportunities for school pupils to engage in Foundation Apprenticeships either in a school hub or in the college. All applications should be made using the application process below.
The Foundation Apprenticeship award set at SCQF Level 6 (same level of learning as a Higher) is a fantastic qualification to gain as it provides the best of both worlds (college and school) while you’re still at school. The FA award provides you with the skills employers are looking for and the experience you’ll need to get a head start in your career.
You can study a Foundation Apprenticeship over one or two years depending on course criteria. Starting in fifth/sixth year the qualification will count as one of your subject choices alongside your other Highers and Nationals. You’ll spend time away from school at both College and with an employer based setting where you’ll gain practical work experience.
On the two year programme you’ll have to be a fifth year pupil and you’ll spend up to two half days a week out of school at College and with an employer. On year two of the programme you’ll spend more time with an employer, putting into practise the skills you’ve learned at College. On course completion you’ll gain a qualification recognised by industry employers . This qualification also contains parts of a Modern Apprenticeship.
