Gain industry insight and a qualification while you're still at school

South Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire College are working together to provide opportunities for school pupils to engage in Foundation Apprenticeships either in a school hub or at  South Lanarkshire College.

Foundation Apprenticeships take you out of the classroom and into the workplace. You can choose a Foundation Apprenticeship as one of your subjects in S5 or S6 and it’s a Level 6 qualification, the same level as Higher.

We’ve Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) courses starting in August 2021 and applications are NOW open .

The FA award provides you with the skills employers are looking for and the experience you’ll need to get a head start in your career. Over one or two years, you’ll come to college and you’ll also spend a lot of time learning with an employer. It’s an essential part of the course and you’ll gain new skills for your CV. It’s also valued by employers and recognised by all Scottish colleges and universities.

On the two year programme you’ll have to be a fifth year pupil and you’ll spend up to two half days a week out of school at college and with an employer.  On year two of the programme you’ll spend more time with an employer, putting into practise the skills you’ve learned at college.  On course completion you’ll gain a qualification recognised by industry employers . This qualification also contains parts of a Modern Apprenticeship.
