South Lanarkshire college students perform well despite pandemic

South Lanarkshire College students have continued to achieve well despite the challenges presented by the pandemic

College performance indicators for 2019-20 published by the Scottish Funding Council in July 2021 demonstrate that South Lanarkshire College students have continued to achieve well despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.  The college has continued to provide learning opportunities for more students than in previous years and continues to exceed Scottish Government targets.

Student success is always the number one priority for South Lanarkshire College, and the pandemic has not changed this. The performance indicators published showcase the incredible commitment, dedication and support from all staff at the college who have gone above and beyond to ensure that our students are given the best possible opportunity to achieve their potential.

The college consistently overachieves on sector-wide performance and this is down to ensuring that student success is at the heart of all decision making and improvements across the college. All staff at the college have adapted incredibly since the pandemic and the performance indicators published is a real testament to this.

The college is still well above national averages for the vast majority of its courses with students on full time courses in further education having attainment rates of 71.4%, which is 6.2% above national targets.

Students on full time higher education courses achieve particularly well with attainment rates of 77.9% against national rates of 69.8%.  Similarly, part time students on higher education courses had attainment rates of 85.6% almost 7% above national rates.

The college remains focussed on delivering high quality outcomes to all students and one of our priorities is to provide equality of opportunity and equity of outcomes.  Our care experienced students have achieved slightly above national rates (58.7%) at 61%.  Students from an ethnic minority background have also achieved 3.8% above national rates at 73.7%. Students with a disability have continued to achieve well with attainment rates of 71.2%, almost 6% above national rates.

Students from SIMD10 (472 students) and SIMD20 (795 students) areas are still achieving well at 72.2% and 72.9% respectively, which demonstrates the excellent support given to all our students in such a difficult year.

South Lanarkshire College remains one of Scotland’s top performing colleges in student success and we are very proud of both our students and staff for what they have achieved in 2019-20.
