Laying the Foundation to a Career in Brickwork

By studying brickwork you’ll be setting yourself up for a promising long-term career in an ever expanding industry. The latest trade survey by the Federation of Master Builders has revealed that skills shortages are at a record level and people with bricklaying qualifications are in high demand.

FMB chief executive Brian Berry said: “Skills shortages are sky rocketing and it begs the question, who will build the new homes and infrastructure projects the Government is crying out for? More than two-thirds of construction SMEs are struggling to hire bricklayers and figures are the highest we’ve noted since records began a decade ago. This means wages for these increasingly scarce skilled tradespeople continue to rise sharply; a simple consequence of supply and demand.”

At South Lanarkshire College we pride ourselves on providing vocational courses to meet industry demand and as a result, we’re now offering an NPA course in Bricklaying to tackle the shortage. The one year SCQF level 5 course will commence in August 2018 introducing you to general workplace health, safety and welfare. This full-time course will develop your productive work practices and teach you a range of bricklaying tasks including: half-brick walling, cavity walling, simple arch construction and simple decorative brickwork.

The NPA in Brickwork has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the construction industry while getting you ready to start your professional career in .
