A warm welcome to our international students. We’re proud of our diverse college community which attracts students, staff and partners from places across the globe!

There’s no doubt that students with an international perspective to their studies will have many career opportunities at your fingertips when you complete your studies. You will have benefited from learning from an international perspective and from experiencing new cultures and therefore you will be attractive to many different types of employers – from multi-national companies to government embassies.

The Scottish Government has announced an extension of the home fee status guarantee to EU and associated students commencing a course of Further or Higher Education in the 2021/22 academic year. This guarantee will cover the duration of a student’s course and will provide confidence for prospective EU students considering coming to Scotland to study.

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Scotland!

• Communication

Many employers value transferable skills as highly as they do subject knowledge, and demonstrating these talents is a great way to stand out and gain a competitive edge in the international job market.

The College helps learners to develop all of these important skills and many more, increasing your employability upon graduation.

We continually work with business and industry, allowing us to offer the most relevant, flexible and practical courses. These highly vocational programmes produce graduates with sought after employment skills.

SLC teaching staff have a wealth of professional and industry experience. This experience allows learners to gain an understanding of today’s workplace and provides a valuable insight into applying knowledge in real-world situations.

Our courses are designed to enhance your skills and knowledge to suit the needs of employers. Learners receive valuable input from leading business and industry experts in their subject field. There are also opportunities to carry out project work and case studies for businesses that give practical, hands-on experience, teaching you invaluable skills for the future.

When you successfully complete your studies at SLC you may wish to progress to university to complete a Degree. We have excellent university links and we’ll work with you to identify a suitable programme and can help you with your application.

It’s important to us that all learners benefit from a positive experience while studying at SLC. Our high quality of academic support allows you to make the most of your learning environment, helping you to achieve your full potential.

All SLC staff are approachable and lecturers are available to guide learners through their studies. Many departments operate an open learning environment – where learners can speak with lecturers on a one-to-one basis. There are guidance sessions every week, which learners can use to discuss course queries as and when they arise. Help is always on hand when needed!

Learners are also assigned a guidance tutor who’ll be available to talk about any aspect of the course and help with course related questions. You’ll find this particularly useful as it provides a consistent and reliable solution to course related issues.

Our web-based learning platform Moodle provides access from any location to online course materials.

International students are offered English language support throughout your time at SLC. IELTS preparation and testing is offered at no extra cost to international students.

Learners benefit from small class sizes of around 20 people meaning that you receive the support needed to achieve your goals.

You choose the type of accommodation that’s right for you. When you first arrive, we’ll arrange a week’s free accommodation for you at the local university’s halls of residence and during that time you can make arrangements for permanent accommodation. Many students choose to stay in the halls of residence because they’re affordable, safe and only a 20-30 minute journey from the College. Some students like to live in private, rented accommodation with other students and take a lease with a private landlord.

Contact us to talk about your accommodation options. We’re happy to advise you as much as we can.
