National Transition Training Fund

The National Energy Efficiency Transition Training Fund, supported by the Energy Skills Partnership (ESP) has been put in place by the Scottish Government to support those in the energy, engineering and construction sectors who’s careers have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The fully funded courses on offer at South Lanarkshire College are aimed at upskilling and enhancing the qualifications of individuals over 25 years old who currently or have worked in the energy, engineering or construction industries and have been made redundant or at risk of being made redundant.

The courses cover key areas such as AS/GS Heat Pump training, Solar Thermal plumbing, Water Byelaws and External Wall Insulation Application. These are run between 1 and 30 days, combining online learning with onsite practical elements at the East Kilbride based campus to ensure you gain the skills and qualifications employers really value.

We offer courses in: 

AirSource Ground Source Heat Pumps (4 days) 

This course is designed to give installers the skills and knowledge required to correctly install heat pumps. Pre-requisites – Plumbing and HVAC Engineers (must hold appropriate industry qualifications at SVQ level 3 or equivalent). Colleges offering this course

Solar Thermal (4 days)

This course is designed for Plumbing and HVAC Engineers who want to upskill in solar energy systems 

Water Byelaws (1 day)

This course is for anyone requiring an understanding of water regulations / water byelaws, in particular those wishing to become approved plumbers / contractors. Pre-requisites – Plumbing and HVAC Engineers (must hold appropriate industry qualifications at SVQ level 3 or equivalent)

Unvented Hot Water (1 day)

This course is for plumbing and heating engineers who want to install Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems to enable them to demonstrate their competence so they join a Competent Persons’ Scheme allowing the self-certification of installations, or to notify the local Building Control Department prior to commencing work. Pre-requisites -Plumbing and HVAC Engineers (must hold appropriate industry qualifications at SVQ level 3 or equivalent)

External Wall Insulation (30 days) 

This course is designed for those interested in upskilling on external wall insulation. A sector that is increasing due to a demand for more energy efficient homes.
