Why should I study beauty therapy?

In 2022 there were over 40,000 hair and beauty businesses in the UK This figure is continually rising with more people spending more money on beauty and wellness treatments.

Around 8,800 people are employed as beauty therapists in Scotland. Their average annual salary is around £24,000.

Within your role you would give people special treatments for their face and body to help them look their best and feel good.

You’d welcome clients to the beauty salon and chat to them about what they want. You’d tactfully suggest treatments you feel they might like or which might benefit them. You’d help them relax and feel pampered

What jobs can I get in this area?

You can get jobs in salon work and self-employment as a therapist or salon owner/manager. 46% of those working in the industry in Scotland are self employed, meaning you can work the hours to suit your life style and commitments and have unlimited earning potential. 

How are the courses taught?

You’ll learn through work placement, groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

You’ll be taught by people with high-end experience. Employers such as Ellisons Hair and Beauty, House of Famuir, Capital Hair & Beauty, and Dermalogica will give you an insight into the industry. There are opportunities for work experience too.
