Why should I study childcare?

Within this sector you would work with babies and young children from birth until primary school age, helping them to learn in a safe, happy environment. 

The Scottish Government commitment to provide at least 1,140 hours of early learning and childcare to every child from the age of three has increased opportunities in the sector over the past few years. 

With ample job opportunities and an average salary of £20,000 our childcare courses continue to be very popular, as people look to gain the knowledge, skills and experience to work in the industry. 

What jobs can I get in this area?

You can get jobs such as an early years practitioner, nursery manager, childminder or teaching assistant in the voluntary, private or local authority sectors.

How are the courses taught?

You’ll learn through work placement, groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

You’ll be taught by lecturers with direct experience of the sector, and complete a work placement with private and council childcare providers.
