Course Outline:

This course offers a solid grounding for progressing to an advanced-level course or an entry-level post in the sector. Chefs are in high demand with an estimated 11,000 chef vacancies predicted over the next year across the UK. You will learn the basics for working as a junior chef through a mix of theory and practice.

  • NC Professional Cookery at SCQF level 5
  • SVQ Professional Cookery at SCQF level 5
  • Equivalent recognised qualification
  • Relevant work experience
  • Acceptance may depend on a skills test and interview.

What Will I Study?

You’ll develop advanced practical food preparation, cooking and presentation skills. You’ll also learn about the professional kitchen, food safety legislation, terminology, products, trends, provenance, sustainability, cost and control, employability, food hygiene, and health and safety. You’ll learn through group work, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.
