The creative industries play a vital strategic role in the UK’s economy, adding significantly to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and gross value added (GVA). The creative industries have been identified as an area of significant growth domestically and in terms of international exports. This course will provide you with opportunities to develop your creative and technical skills relevant for employment within the creative industries including in media, photography, digital media and visual communication.
This course will start in August 2022.
Direct entry to relevant HNC or HND, including HNC Photography and HNC Visual Communication.
Entry to this course is subject to one or more of the following:
- ICT, Numeracy and Communication at National 4 plus a further relevant National 4 award
- Equivalent recognised qualification
- Relevant work experience
- Where English is not your first language, ESOL at an appropriate level or IELTS or equivalent with an entry score of 5.5 or above
Course Type and Length Options
This course is a stepping stone to further study to eventually progress to employment in specific careers in the creative industries sector. It develops an awareness of the opportunities and range of employment within the creative industries together with both the practical and employability skills, and the attitudes needed to work in the creative industries.
Who is the course for?
It is aimed at school leavers, adult returners and candidates who wish to further an existing interest in the creative industries. Those already at work in the creative industry sector at trainee level who do not have a formal qualification would benefit from the programme. Self-employed young people and adults who wish to expand and/or update their knowledge of the creative industries may benefit by electing to take specific Units as CPD.
What will I study?
You will be awarded the NC in Creative Industries at SCQF level 5, this includes all four Units from the Creative Industries Skills for Work Course and Working for Yourself.
You will also be awarded two National Progression Awards (NPA):
NPA in Digital Media which includes Audio, Moving Images and Still Images NPA in Photography with units in Photographing People and Places, Understanding Photography and Working with Photographs.
Additional qualifications studied on the course include:
- NPA Digital Media
- NPA Photography
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through a range of practical activities, candidate folios, self-evaluation, planning and review using secure SQA Assessment Support Packs.
