COURSE CONTENT

Core units:
• Programme planning
• Working in an additional support needs setting
• Business communication: analysing and presenting complex communication
• Collaborating with other agencies
• Managing quality
• Effective leadership and management
• Managing and supporting the services
• Graded Unit 2

Optional Units:
• Manage and understand the implications of autistic spectrum disorders
• Policy and social services
• Behaviour analysis and coping strategies
• Understanding and supporting indivduals with dyslexia

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• HNC Additional Support Needs: Supporting the Individual
• HNC Care & Administrative Practice
• HNC Social Services & Care
• HNC Early Education and Childcare/Childhood Practice
• Successful students will be subject to PVG vetting
• Satisfactory reference
• Successful performance at interview

NEXT STEP COURSE OPTIONS

Successful completion may allow students to progress to 2nd year Chilhood Practice degree at UWS (only if you have HNC Childhood Practice or are registered with the SSSC as a child care practitioner), an integrated Health & Social Care degree, BA Learning Difficulties at Fife. Progression is dependent on a satisfactory PVG check.

JOB OPTIONS

The HND may enhance employment prospects for those working within a care environment. Career progression will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory PVG check.
