HNC Care and Administrative Practice


The course includes a two placements in a health care setting (Care Home & NHS Lanarkshire)

Core units:
• Essential skills for care professionals
• Individual pathways to health & social care
• Learning through practice
• Personal development planning
• Physiology for care professionals
• Principles of professional practice
• Therapeutic relationships: understanding behaviour
• Safe working practice for care
• Sociology for care practice
• Graded unit


• At least 2 Highers, one of which should be English or
• At least 12 SQA National Units at Higher
• Over 17 years of age at the commencement of the course
• One suitable reference
• Satisfactory entry test
• Successful students will be subject to PVG vetting
• Successful performance at interview


Successful completion may allow students to progress to a Degree programme in Nursing and Allied Health Professions. Some students may access Year 2 of the Nursing Degree at UWS or GCU. Progression is dependent on a satisfactory PVG check.


As this is a qualification that is recognised by the NHS, successful candidates will be qualified to work at Clinical Support Worker level.  Successful students can find employment in Health Care organisations from statutory, voluntary and independent sectors. Career progression will be subject to the receipt of a satisfactory PVG check.
