Course Outline:

Administrative, support and business services are predicted growth areas for employment in Lanarkshire over the next four years. This course will set you on the path to a career in business, HR, marketing, operations, accounting or economics. It will teach you the fundamentals of business areas such as managing people and organisations, IT, accounting, business law and marketing.

This course will start in August 2022.

Education Progression:

  • Direct entry to second year of HND in Business Management if you achieve an A/B in graded unit 1

Entry Requirements:

One or more of the following:

  • 1 Higher plus 3 National 5 awards
  • Relevant group of SQA National Qualifications at SCQF level 5/6
  • Foundation apprenticeship in a relevant subject
  • Equivalent recognised qualification
  • Relevant current work experience
  • A keen interest in the subject area
  • If English is not your first language, ESOL at an appropriate level or IELTS or equivalent with an entry score of 5.5 or above

The Chartered Institute of Bankers for Scotland will accept holders of HNC directly into their higher level qualifications (Chartered Banker) which leads to MCIBS (Member of Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland).

What Will I Study?

You’ll learn skills and knowledge in management, marketing, and finance. Topics include accounting, managing people and organisations, business fundamentals, emergent technologies, IT and optional units in business law, human resources and customer care. You’ll learn through groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

You’ll also develop your skills and knowledge in  HR including human resource management and individual employment relations.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Ongoing assessment through a range of practical activities, candidate folios, self-evaluation, planning and review using secure SQA assessment support packs. End-of-term closed-book graded unit assessment.
