We’ve developed a new programme together with the Scottish Wider Access Programme – Access to Law, Business and Accounting. The new programme will deliver opportunities for adults who are returning to education an opportunity to study in higher education in the professional fields of business, finance and law.
SWAP programmes are specifically developed in partnership between colleges and universities. The programme will provide opportunities for students to continue their study on one of the College HNC Business or Accounting or degree opportunities at University of the West of Scotland, Glasgow Caledonian University, Stirling University, Strathclyde University and University of Glasgow.
We’re currently running a number of SWAP courses including Access to Nursing and Access to Humanities. 2017 will be the first year of the new SWAP Access to Law, Business and Accounting course.
SWAP as a partnership has been developing programmes for almost 30 years. Over 30,000 adults over that time have taken the opportunity to return to education and gain the opportunities higher education provides.
Kenny Anderson, SWAPWest Director stated that he was “delighted to be running the new programme at South Lanarkshire College. We’ve built on our very strong relationship with the College with our access to social science, primary education, nursing and health sciences. The new specialist Law, Business and Finance programme will provide a wide range of opportunities for the local community – either for those interested in finding out more about the diverse career opportunities in these professional areas to those who already have good experience and are now interested in developing their careers further.”
Neil Croll, Head of Widening Access at the University of Glasgow added that “the University of Glasgow are delighted to be supporting this new SWAP initiative. Our schools of Law, Business and Finance warmly welcome applications from adult students and SWAP programmes provide a great opportunity to progress”.
Our Principal Stewart Mckillop said “SWAP courses are invaluable for people with few or no formal qualifications who would like the opportunity to go on to study at university. We know that degrees in Law, Business and Accounting are among the most popular at Scottish universities. We’re delighted to have been approached by SWAP to offer this course to add to the portfolio of SWAP courses already available here at the College and to further contribute to the Widening Access agenda”.
