COURSE CONTENT

Course will include an element of placement experience.
• Play in early education and childcare
• Child development and health
• Creative and aesthetic experiences for children
• Child protection
• Psychology for care
• Sociology for care
• Parenting
• Working with others
• Supporting children with additional support needs
• Values and principles in care
• Working in early years
• Maintenance of a safe environment for children
• Care and feeding of children
• Process of play
• Children and young people rights and entitlements
• Working with individuals in a care setting

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• 4 National 4 Awards or 4 Standard Grades at General Level or
• Successful completion of National 4 in Care/Early Education and Childcare
• Experience of working with children would be an advantage
• Satisfactory references
• Applicants must be able to communicate effectively
• Successful candidates will be subject to PVG vetting
• Successful performance at interview

NEXT STEP COURSE OPTIONS

Successful completion of this course and successful interview and reference may enable students to progress to NC Early Education and Childcare or Higher social care and health care courses.

JOB OPTIONS

Employment working with children in the voluntary or private sector. Completion of the NPA Award allows registration with the Scottish Social Services Council as a playworker.

Full time starts 15 January 2018 until 15 June 2018
