COURSE CONTENT

This course is for those with an interest in working within complementary health therapies.  Students are required to carry out research and self directed study throughout the course.  A mature attitude to work is expected.  A large part of this programme is of a practical nature and students will be expected to practise their treatments on members of the public.

Core Units Include
•    Professional issues and practice
•    Health and safety legislation: an introduction
•    Research and methodology
•    Perspectives of health
•    Graded Unit 1
•    Human anatomy and physiology for beauty and complementary therapy

Optional Units may Include
•    Body massage
•    Aromatherapy massage
•    Reflexology
•    Indian head massage
•    Stone therapy

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

•    A minimum of 1 higher preferably English or a Science subject or
•    Appropriate life skills
•    Maturity of approach is essential
•    Students must be prepared to communicate and work with members of the public and to practise their skills with the peer group
•    Successful performance at interview

JOB OPTIONS

Successful students may find employment in the health care sector such as clinics or hospices, or within a spa setting, fitness or sports centre or wish to work for themselves.
