CAMPUS ACCESS INFORMATION

Location

The venue is located within the Scottish Enterprise Technology Park.
Access is from the roundabout on Kelvin Road close to High Common Road.
The nearest railway station is East Kilbride.
The nearest bus station is East Kilbride Town Centre.

Parking

The College has a large car park.
Access to the car park is through student ID pass or push button communication with reception.
Blue Badge parking is available close to the main entrance.
There is a convenient drop-off point.

Outside Access

This venue is not located on a road which has a steep gradient.
There is level access and lowered pavements.
There are three sets of entrance doors. The one on the left has disabled access via push button.

Reception

The reception desk is 10m from the entrance.
There is level access to reception from the front entrance.
The reception desk has high and low access areas.
The reception area is well lit.

Inside Access

There is level access to all areas.
Portable hearing loops are available.
The building is well lit. Lighting is automatic in corridors, classrooms and offices.
The venue does not normally play background music other than at lunch and break times in the canteen area
Access to corridors off the central atrium is via ID pass. Readers and door release buttons at low level.
The building is well signposted with bus stop type signs above room doors.

Double doors

Doors are quite heavy.
Visibility panels on all doors at high and low level.
Doors within the corridors are generally held open on magnetic catches.

Staff receive disability awareness training.
Some members of staff are trained in British Sign Language.

A wide range of enabling technologies is available to facilitate access to learning.

Other floors

All floors are accessible by stairs and by lift.
There are 25+ steps between floors.
The steps have handrails on both sides.
The steps are well lit.
The steps are deep.
There is a landing on each flight of stairs.
The steps of the main atrium staircase are not clearly marked.

Lifts

There are three lifts for public use.
The lifts are standard lifts.
The lift to floors 1, 2, and 3 are located beside the reception desk.
The lift to the lower ground floor is located in the construction wing, ground floor.
One lift is designated as an evacuation lift in the event of a fire. Procedures are in place for those who are unable to use the stairs in the event of an emergency evacuation of the building.

Toilets

There are adapted unisex toilets for public use on the ground, first and third floors in the open central atrium. Additionally, the toilet on the third floor is equipped for support with personal care.

The toilet on the second floor is close to central atrium and a student or staff ID card is required to access this corridor.
The door opens outwards.
The door is locked by a lever handle.
There is a low level toilet tissue dispenser, hand basin, soap dispenser, hand dryer and
paper towel dispenser.
Lever taps are fitted to the hand basin.
Grab rails are fitted.
Disposal facilities are available within the toilet.
Mirrors are placed at low level.
There is an emergency alarm fitted.
The toilets are well lit. Lights are automatic.

Student Association Office

In central atrium to right of reception.
Wheelchair accessible.

Advice Centre

Access is on left of reception.
Doors are automatic slide to side or by push button.
Advice desk has high and low access areas.
The area is well lit.

Interview areas, interview rooms and offices are accessible.
A portable induction loop is available for use in any room in this area.
Staff on hand to give assistance if required to access some of the information stands.
All members of staff have undertaken deaf awareness training.

General Office / Cash Desk

Located on ground floor in central atrium, close to reception desk and lifts.
High and low access cash windows.
Induction loop installed at cash windows.
Staff members have undertaken deaf awareness and/or basic British Sign Language
training.

Learner Resource Centre

Located on first floor in central atrium, close to lifts.
Double doors to Library are automatic on push button. The doors open into the corridor.
Single door to Learning Centre is automatic on push button. The door opens into the corridor.
Height adjustable computer workstations are available and may be booked in advance.
Staff on hand to give assistance to access some of the library resources.

Support for Learning

Located on first floor.
Single door is automatic on push button.
Interview rooms are accessible.

Wide range of enabling technologies available in this area.
Qualified staff available to assess need and organise resources.
Staff on hand to give assistance / training if required to access the enabling technologies.

Food Court

Located on the second floor in the central atrium close to the lifts.
Self service / self clearing area with staff on hand to give assistance if required.
Many tables are easily accessed.
Plastic cutlery and straws available on request.
Tables are standing or standard height.

Cafe Bistro

Located on the third floor in the central atrium close to the lifts.
Self service area. Assistance available if required.
Tables are easily accessed.
Tables are standing or standard height.

Shop

Located on the ground floor in the central atrium close to reception.
Staff give assistance to high level shelves.

Coffee Pod

Located on the ground floor in the central atrium close to reception.
Medium level counter and dispense trolley.
Staff give assistance and serve in front of counter if required.

Training Restaurant

Located on the second floor in the central atrium, close to lifts.
Some areas of restaurant accessible. Advance notice of special access requirements advisable.
Tables are standard height.

Accounting, Administration, Business, Computing & IT Classrooms and IT Suites

Located on the third floor.
Corridor accessed by ID pass.

Readers and door release buttons at low level.
Classrooms may be up to 100 m from the main door.
Height adjustable workstations are available in some rooms.

Child Care, Health Care & Social Care Classrooms

Located on the first, second and third floors.
Corridor accessed by ID pass.

Readers and door release buttons at low level.
Classrooms may be up to 100 m from the main door.

Hair & Beauty Salons

Hair & Beauty reception located on the second floor in central atrium close to lifts.
Corridor accessed by ID pass.

Readers and door release buttons at low level.
Salons and beauty rooms located on second and third floors may be up to 100 m from the
main door.

Hospitality – Training Kitchens

Located on the second floor.
Corridor accessed by ID pass.

Readers and door release buttons at low level.
Kitchens may be up to 30 m from the main door.
Production kitchens are not wheelchair accessible.
Construction Workshops
Corridors accessed by ID pass.

Readers and door release buttons at low level.
Workshops may be up to 120 m from the main door.
Classrooms, science lab and drawing rooms are on the first floor. Classrooms may be up to 100 m from the main door
Joinery workshops are on ground floor.

Construction / Brickwork / Roofing workshops are on lower ground floor. Mezzanine areas are accessed from ground floor.
Plumbing workshops are on ground floor.
Painting and decorating workshops are on ground floor. 10+ steps to mezzanines in painting and decorating workshops with no access for wheelchair users and difficult access for those with mobility difficulties.
Gas training & assessment workshops are on first floor.
Plastering workshops are on lower ground floor. 10+ steps to mezzanine.

Management Offices

Located on the third floor off the central atrium close to the lifts.
Corridor and office doors accessed by ID pass.

Readers and door release buttons at low level.
Some workstations are not wheelchair accessible.

Lecturing Staff Workrooms

Located on the first (Construction and Care), second (Care) and third (Business) floors off the central atrium.
