Master Chefs of Great Britain Award 2010| 04.10.10


Five students from Hospitality in the Faculty of Business have been awarded ‘Diplomas’ and ‘Advanced Diplomas’ at a recent prize giving ceremony and lunch at the Crowne Plaza Hotel 5 * Resort, St James in London.  Claire McEwan and Laura McFarlane were awarded the Advanced Diploma in Professional Cookery whilst Andrew Finnegan, Heather Simpson and Gillian Hanson picked up the Diploma in Professional Cookery.

To be considered for this prestigeous award students must have worked with a Master Chef for a minimum of 12 months for diploma level and a minimum of 24 months for advanced diploma. During this time they must demonstrate consistently the highest levels of craft and academic standards. Only then is their application considered for judging by the Master Chef panel who also assess their folio of academic achievement and professional proficiency.

Tutor and Master Chef David Auchie said ‘The students from South Lanarkshire College have once again been rewarded for their commitment, dedication and professionalism in Hospitality during session 2009-2010’. ‘I am extremely proud of all five students’. ‘To put their achievement into perspective South Lanarkshire College is the only college in the UK to have students selected and recognised for these awards year on year.
