Inclusiveness Project

Free training courses delivered in the Community

As part of a new and exciting initiative, The Inclusiveness Project, South Lanarkshire College is currently delivering FREE employability and vocational training courses in community locations to South Lanarkshire residents who have been unemployed for at least 6 months, and have encountered barriers to accessing employment.

To date, over 230 people have benefitted from the project thanks to a wide network of partner agencies who all contribute together to prepare and progress participants for the world of work.  The project is helping prepare for future demands of employers seeking to recruit, whilst helping individuals develop personal and vocational skills, included in customised demand-led programmes aligned with current and projected skills shortages.  The programme is focused on employability skills support and assistance with progression into employment, training or further education.

The project offers a variety of client focused courses such as:

  • Modern Office Skills (15 weeks); for those looking to refresh or improve their basic/ intermediate administration and IT skills.
  • NPA Playwork & Childcare (20 weeks); an ideal first qualification for anyone interested in working with children as a playworker, nanny, childcare assistant or in many other roles.  It is also suitable for anyone who has previous experience of working in one of these roles but does not have a childcare qualification.
  • PDA Education Support Assistance (28 weeks); a qualification to prepare participants for employment in a variety of education settings to support children and young people.
  • Customer Care (11 weeks); training in new skills aimed at preparing participants to deal professionally and effectively with the public.
  • Social Care (9 weeks); provides an introduction to care and is aimed at those interested in working in the growing sector of social care.

Advantages:

  • Courses do not exceed 16 hours per week, so as not to affect those on benefits
  • Childcare costs are provided during involvement on the course
  • Weekly training allowance each week to assist with the cost of travel and lunch
  • Training takes place within local communities
The Inclusiveness Project is supported by a dedicated team based in South Lanarkshire College, East Kilbride (see below for details).  The team have assisted clients with confidence building, motivation skills, and employability skills such as job search, CV and interview preparation workshops. They also follow the project’s participants well after they have finished their course, offering them further support and sign posting.
